What you do prior to your sunless tan has a huge impact on the outcome and the longevity of your tan. It is imperative to follow the steps below to ensure your skin is prepped and ready for spray tanning!
-
All self-care appointments must be completed at least 24 hours (48 is even better!) prior to your tanning appointment. This includes massages, waxing, facials, lashes/brows, and mani/pedis. If these appointments are booked and completed after spray tanning, they could cause your tan to fade faster.
-
Shave and exfoliate at least 24 hours prior to your spray tanning appointment. Exfoliation is the MOST important step to achieving an optimal result. A good quality scrub with an exfoliating mitt will allow the elimination of dead skin cells and impurities. It's important that your skin has time to allow the amino acids to reconstruct as the DHA needs amino acids to develop.
-
It is important to shower the day of your appointment to ensure your skin is clean and ready for your tan. Ideally, showers should be taken 3-4 hours prior to your appointment. Your pores need time to close before the application, otherwise, it may leave dark spots.
-
If possible, it's best not to wear makeup, moisturizers, sunscreen, perfume, or deodorant the day of your appointment. If you're coming to tan after work/at the end of your day, we offer baby wipes to cleanse residue from your skin (like deodorant, moisturizers, etc). Additionally, the PH balancing spray that is applied prior to your custom color will help, but it's definitely best to arrive to your spray tan appointment as a "blank slate" if at all possible.
-
When redressing after your appointment, it is ideal to wear oversized/loose clothing! Anything that rubs against your skin right after your spray tan will disrupt the tan's development. A long-sleeved shirt and pants with open-toe sandals are the best option. If it's cold out, any loose slip on shoe is great. No socks, tight pants, tight shirts, or underwear (#nobraclub) is best!
